1. Product and introduction.
The red & far red plant lamp is designed to create Emerson’s phenomena and simulating sunset and sunrise. Increases photosynthetic reactions occurring in the plant, allows it to longer regeneration phase and faster falling asleep after turning off the main lighting. Using deep and far red supplementation in the plant’s life cycle increases its growth, flowering and color intensification (especially recommended for flowers).
– The lamp is available in two versions:
30cm (~10W)
60cm (~20W)
2. Elements included in the set and a real photo of the lamp and mounting brackets.

4. Spectrum, what are the benefits of deep and far red?
Have you ever wondered, Why the sky at sunset and sunrise is orange-red and finally burgundy? What effect does this have on our plants? How do they react to these colors or wavelengths?
The sun at sunrise and sunset is accompanied by a red-burgundy sky, this is the result current position of the sun closer to the horizon, so sunlight has to get through greater thickness of the Earth’s atmosphere. For this reason, most of the particles in the sky scatter light by short wavelengths such as purple, green, blue, and the light of longer wavelengths such as red, burgundy and orange pass through these molecules and reach our plants and us.
How does the above-mentioned process affect plants? To fully understand this, we will use a spectrogram graph of the sun, available next door.
7 basic colors create the full spectrumwhich for us humans is seen as yellow or white color, at the moment when long waves reach the plants – range from 600nm to 800nmand other short waves are not present at the moment in such a high intensity as after sunrise or before sunset, plants perceive this phenomenon as “awakening” or “sleep”.
How do long waves affect the plant mechanism?
Plants have a natural a photoreceptor called phytochrome, it is a protein that collects information about far-red light level in the plant’s environment. This phytochrome affects various aspects of plant life, such as germination, flower formation, growth and expansion of the root ball, but also photoperiodism. Photoperiodism means regulating a plant’s day and night cycles.
By accelerating the nightfall process, we make the plant enter faster in the regeneration phase than with regular lighting. As a result, the plant, using a lamp with deep and far red and other main plant light, receives full course of a sunny day.
If we use two conditions as an example:
1) Main lamp without addition far and deep red, lamp operating time is 12 hours, it is the plant “will come out” from the night phase it takes from 90 to 120 minutes, so the plant actually receives about 10 hours of time for effective photosynthesis.
2) In the case of the main lamp and adding a lamp with a distant and deep red we initiate the regeneration process and faster entry into night phase, the plant thus receives up to two hours more of photosynthetic processes!
5. What is the Emerson phenomenon and who was Dr. Robert Emerson?
Robert Emerson
is an American biologist who in 1957 observed
a process that was later named after him – the Emerson Effect.
Robert Emerson during his research on photosynthesis in algae of the genus
Chlorella, noticed that the efficiency of photosynthesis in the presence of two types of light (range from 660 to 740 nanometers) was much higher than sum of effects these two lights operating separately.
Photosynthesis
plants occur in two photosystems. Photosystem I (PSI) and
photosystem II (PSII). Deep red activates photosystem PSI in turn
far red photosite PSII.
Under normal conditions, each of these two types of light separately can only activate one from two photosystems.
Both photosystems are crucial to the photosynthesis process, and each of them is
responsible for the various stages of converting light energy into
chemical energy.
Two-way exposure wavelengths simultaneously activates
mechanism to increase the amount of chemical energy produced (in
form of energy compounds such as ATP and NADPH) and
efficiency of the entire photosynthesis process.
What does this mean in practice?
If
we will use three lamps, each of them with the same power but different
the colors of the light and place three plants under them, we will get:
A) Deep red lamp – 50% for photosynthesis
B) Far red lamp – 10% for photosynthesis
C) Lamp with deep and far red – 80% for photosynthesis
Thanks appropriate ratio and combination of 660nm and 730nm diodes we increase photosynthesis only by exposing the plant to two different lengths of light.
More photosynthesis translates into:
– They stimulate plant development
– They enhance the ability to absorb water and nutrients from the soil
– They intensify the colors of plants and flowers
– Increases plant expansion by lengthening stems and increasing leaf surface area
6. Examples of lamp combinations.
Supplementation deep and distant red is best is to connect with another, main lamp for plants to create for plants a full stretch of sunny day, it is good that the light given by the main lamp is in full spectrum containing 7 basic colors, giving finally white light.
Below are some diagrams of using our lamps with full spectrum or cold color, together with supplementation of deep and far red or UV.
7. Diodes and their arrangement.
The diodes used are quite well-known EPISTAR 2835.
Additionally, we decided modify the board on which they are mounted. What does this mean?
Typically, in most plant growing lamps, the diodes are arranged at equal distances from each other and come in various configurations such as: diode next to diode (one behind the other) or diode next to diode (in series). It doesn’t matter whether the diodes are one behind the other or in a row, but in our opinion they are big their distance from each other is important and how it relates to the distribution and dispersion of light.
If we pay attention to the graphic below and on lamp on the right side – we can see that the arrangement of the diodes at equal distances from each other causes the central plant to receive much more light than the plants next to it, after some time it may result in the plant “outgrowing” the center and taking away light from the plants on the sides. Moreover, with this arrangement of diodes, the most light falls in the epicenter, so the center is lit very well, but the light is not so well dispersed. (Which is important when growing collectible plants in this case).
Our lamp, which is on the left, has diodes spaced at three different distances from each other, depending on the location on the lamp. (Looking from the left side of the lamp: the concentration of diodes is large and begins to disperse towards the center of the lamp). The concentration of diodes into three different segments and their gradual dispersion allows distribution of lamp power into 3 sectors, This results in well-dispersed light along the entire length of the lamp. This helps avoid the “hot-spot” phenomenon.
8. Useful tips that can help you when using the lamp.
What is the suggested area where the lamp works effectively?
The lamp works effectively in an area of 120x60cm from a height 50cm.
At what height should the lamp be hung?
The lamp should be hung at a height 30-50cm.
How long should the lamp run in hours per day?
The lamp should work for 30 minutes Before turning on the main lamp and 30 minutes after turning off main lamp.
9. Connecting lamps together in series.
Lamps can be connect together in series, this eliminates the need to use several cables with a plug and/or socket connecting several timers to several lamps. The lamp is double-sided, which means that the power cable is connected on one side, which powers the power supply built into the lamp, and on the other hand we can connect a connecting cable to connect the lamp to the lamp in series or a connecting bridge, which will create a direct connection of the lamps to each other. (The graphic below illustrates the connection method).
You can combine lamps of different lengths with different light colors, as long as the total power does not exceed 140W.
If only one lamp is to be used, it is possible to terminate the other side with a plug, which is included in the set.
*Connecting cables for lamps must be purchased separately if the connecting length is to be longer than the skein/adapter included in the set.
Available connecting cable lengths:
– 20cm
– 30cm
– 50cm
– 60cm
– 80cm
– 110cm
– 140cm
– 200cm
and half cables to create your own cables.
More information You can find more information about them in the cable tabs.
10. Various power cables for the lamp.
For the lamp you can choose from: three different power cables. Due to the fact that you asked for longer cables (The previous one had only 1.5 m long) we decided that we would now focus only and exclusively on the lengths of 300cm and 250cm (counted together with the socket and the lamp input).
– Standard ON/OFF power cable
– ON/OFF power cable with timer (3,6,12g)
– Standard double ON/OFF power cable (in this case the length to the switch is 202cm, a branch is created from the switch into two lamps, which is 48cm).
*The power cable must be selected separately from the store’s offer*
11. Mounting options and additional accessories for the lamp.
There are actually several options for mounting the lamp, the simplest you should use:
– Cable ties or zip ties.
– Hot glue.
– Strong double-sided tape.
– Using the brackets from the kit and screwing the screws into a wooden strip or shelf.
I also know that Some of you asked me about various other options for mounting the lamp without assembly, I tried to choose the most universal and proven solutions to no need to bother with drilling into walls or your favorite shelves, because the concept can always change.
To the offer that will help To illuminate your plants, you also need:
– Stand with thick acrylicwhich has the possibility shoulder adjustment, which means that you can set it at a height of 30 to 62 cm and adjust it to the growth of your plants.
– Clip with flexible arm, which will allow you to illuminate plants on a windowsill or shelf, for example. Simply attach it to the edge and use the handle to grab the lamp and place it above the plants.
– Mounting kit (here with drilling) with steel cable, which has the ability to move the lamp up and down thanks to which you can set the light intensity for your “Leon Professionals” by adjusting the height.
More detailed information can be found on the individual lamp accessories tabs.
12. Shipping and packaging.
All packages are properly packed to prevent damage during transport.
Shipping times are specified in the “delivery” tab.
13. Operating conditions.
– Use only indoors at temperatures between -10 and 40 degrees.
– Use in places where there is free air circulation around the lamp.
– Do not use in places where there is a possibility of water exposure.
– Do not use dimmers (so-called dimmers that increase or decrease the voltage).
– Do not use on electrical installations without surge protection.
